July 4th Preparations For a Happy Dog

Happy 4th of July to everyone!  I hope you all have a very special celebration this year.  July 4th is around the corner and we all love and enjoy the fireworks.  Well, almost all of us.  Let’s all remember to keep our pet’s safe.  July 4th is the day of the year that most pets go missing.  Here are a few tips to help keep your pet’s safe.

1. Make sure your pet is wearing a properly fit collar with I.D. tags.
2. Early in the day (before any fireworks), take your dog for a nice long walk to burn off extra energy.  This way your dog will be tired and hopefully sleep through the fireworks.
3. Keep your dogs at home (or in a boarding facility).  DO NOT take them with you to the fireworks. 
4. Provide a place where your dog feels safe with a lot of water.  Dogs tend to feel safe in small spaces. 
5. Turn on a T.V. or radio to help camouflage the loud noise.
6. Keep the house closed tight.  Make sure all windows and doors are closed to keep out the sound and prevent escapes. 
7. Close your blinds and curtains to help keep out the noise and flashing lights.    
8. Give your dog his favorite toy and/or treat to distract him. 
9. Do not set off fireworks around any dog.
